The New Testament in a Year
During worship on January 6th we will celebrate the beginning of our year of reading through the New Testament. That morning we will be challenged about the importance of reading God’s Word. There are just enough chapters in the New Testament to read five each week and finish by year’s end. You will receive a calendar of dates and readings, as well as a notebook, in which you can journal about what you learn.
Here’s how we propose you read:
- Pray that the Holy Spirit teaches you as you read (rather than use Bible commentaries or study notes - at least for the 1st few months).
- Then read a chapter and ponder it.
- Ask, “What do I learn about God in these verses?”
- Ask, “How is God urging me to respond to what I read?”
- Write your thoughts in your journal.
- Pick one thought or verse to remember throughout the day.
- Thank God for what He teaches you and talk with Him in prayer.
- Each week share something you learn with someone.
For those of you who want to begin the habit of personal devotional time for the first time, you can start with as little as 10 minutes a day. If you join late or get behind, you can jump in or start on the current week’s chapter. You don’t have to catch up.Watch your Chronicles or bulletins for the verse that will be chosen to focus on each week in your family.
Pray that God will speak to us as individuals and as a congregation through His Word.
