Genesis 27, 29, 32
Key Point: If we are willing to submit our lives to God, He will use us to be a blessing to others in ways we never could in our own clever strength
1st person reflections
***********
“I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” [Genesis 28:15]
***********
What dreams have you had to postpone or abandon?
When/why have you struggled with God?
What “new name” identity have you received on your faith journey?
Where do you see evidence that you are becoming more trusting?

Bible Verses: Genesis 21, 24, 25
Key Point: Despite receiving a family legacy and being directed by decisions beyond our control, we must still find our own faith and our purpose for being alive
The nature of an OT blessing:
God’s dominion – bigger “flow” to life
Family acceptance – my place
Message of value – accompanied by meaningful touch
Future hope – despite current circumstances
Call to fulfill a purpose and destiny –that goes beyond my life
[cf. Smalley & Trent, The Blessing, Pocket Books, 1986]
1st person re-telling of the journey of faith
****************
“After Abraham’s death, GOD blessed his son Isaac, who then lived near Beer Lahai Roi.” [Genesis 25:11]
****************
In what ways have you experienced the burden of a spiritual legacy?
When have you felt vulnerable, helpless, bound?
How are you seeking God’s blessing that will give you purpose and meaning for your life?

Genesis 12, 16
Key Point: We are called to have faith even when it appears God is slow or even withholding His promises
Reading the OT sagas:
Level 1 (”peshat”) = simple series of facts;
Level 2(”remez”) = connections;
Level 3 (”drash”) = meaning;
Level 4 (”sod”) = mystical understanding.
Read as “never-ending story”
God’s will often unfolds in stages – despite a promise of final fulfillment
1st person retelling of the story
********
“Abram believed the Lord, and He credited to him as righteousness.”[Genesis 15:6]
When have you felt like God was slow in fulfilling His promises?
What dreams are you waiting on right now?

“Faith Despite The Evidence” Genesis 6-9
Key Point: Like Noah & “Joan” we can act on our faith despite the barrier of insufficient, even contradictory evidence by following God’s commands
Lenten journey – serious yet with joy – looking to OT (and the rabbis) for help on our faith journeys
Bible = 4 story – God’s story \ their story \ our story \ my story
Read with 2 eyes – outward to see cosmos; inward to see our souls
We all trace our ancestry to Noah and his wife
1st person retelling of the story
*******
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” [Hebrews 11:1]
*******
When have you taken the risk of trusting God even when there seemed to be insufficient evidence to believe His commands?
How are you being called to obey today?
