1 Corinthians 12:4-11; 27- 13:1
Key Point: God can use our natural talents and experiences to make an eternal difference if we are committed to growing as fully devoted disciples and to using our special spiritual gifts as a congregation
Imagine what Saul/Paul’s mother thought of her son?
Idiopathic = no known origin
Iatrogenic = healer – origin (doctor caused)
Eusebeigenic = righteous – origin (sin of good people)
Talents vs. gifts? WHO?
Who benefits? Who gets credit? Who “owns” them?
God uses all/both talents/experience & special spiritual gifts
What are our talents?
What are our special spiritual gifts?
Spiritual Gifts: given by grace for the sake of others – grace comes TO us in order to pass THROUGH us to others
Unity = sign of the Body of Christ working in mission = love
How will we exercise them for the Kingdom?
Misuse; Abuse; Use = yield to Jesus’ Spirit
Outcome? Healthy, missional growth!

Key Point: In order to grow and make a positive difference we need to accept the Holy Spirit’s view of our value and not accept the world’s limitations
Have you ever met a prostitute?
What illness are you facing? What addiction are you hiding? What habit are you holding on to?
Jesus wants to liberate us!
To change costs something
Mary became a partner/friend in mission
Where are you believing/acting out the world’s view of you? What is the Holy Spirit’s real view?
How can you translate your loving transformation into “footwashing” ministry action?

11:23 By faith, when Moses was born, his parents hid him for three months, because they saw the child was beautiful and they were not afraid of the king’s edict. 11:24 By faith, when he grew up, Moses refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, 11:25 choosing rather to be ill-treated with the people of God than to enjoy sin’s fleeting pleasure. 11:26 He regarded abuse suffered for Christ to be greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for his eyes were fixed on the reward. 11:27 By faith he left Egypt without fearing the king’s anger, for he persevered as though he could see the one who is invisible.
Key Point: Our identity is not wrapped up in our current position but in our fulfilling our destiny/purpose
Ever been asked to take on a project you knew was more than you could handle alone?
Self-concept crucial –
How do we view our purpose/destiny for living?
Cultural roles confine our capacities to serve God
“I’m just…” vs. What’s my mission?
Where do you need to rethink/change your self-concept?
How should RCC change its self-concept?
Moses – no ordinary boy
How do we self-exile ourselves?
How are you reluctant to step up to serve?
From exiled prince to exalted/humble leader
Our mission? To infiltrate, influence and impact the people and systems where God has placed us – to reach ALL of greater Rochester for the sake of the Kingdom - 1×1
Change our perspective by refocusing our mission

Ruth 1-4; Philippians 4:11-13
Key Point: When circumstances create unexpected changes, we can faithfully flourish by following the Holy Spirit’s guidance to new and even better opportunities
Ever had things go from bad to worse?
Unexpected circumstances
Naomi “Pleasant One” becomes Mara “Bitter”
What makes you bitter?
Sacrifice leads to significance – that extends beyond our lifetimes
What are we doing that will live beyond us?
Character traits: faithfulness, kindness, integrity, protection,
Outcome = true prosperity & posterity
What’s our reputation?
Belief on which we can build our lives = secret of contentment
Move from Bitter to Blessed
Learn to live in gratitude for life in any and all circumstances
What does future hold for us/RCC?
Choose to be bitter or be blessed!
