Life on the Rock

7:24 “Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them is like a wise man who built his house on rock. 7:25 The rain fell, the flood came, and the winds beat against that house, but it did not collapse because it had been founded on rock. 7:26 Everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 7:27 The rain fell, the flood came, and the winds beat against that house, and it collapsed; it was utterly destroyed!”

  1. What does it mean to build our lives upon the Rock? (Genesis 49:24; 1 Corinthians 10:4)
    1. Jesus is our nourishment in life (Deuteronomy 32:13; John 6:35; Colossians 1)
      1. What is one thing you feel you couldn’t go a day without?
    2. Jesus is our salvation from sin (Deuteronomy 32:15; Isaiah 53:6; Romans 3:23, 6:23; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21; 1 Peter 3:18)
      1. What do you find yourself doing that you think makes God love you more?
    3. Jesus is our refuge from the storms of life (2 Samuel 22:3; Psalm 18:2, 31:2, 62:7, 71:3, 94:22)
      1. Where do you often find yourself turning to when life gets hard?
  2. The world doesn’t agree!
    1. The Rock is foolishness to the world (1 Peter 2:4-8; 1 Corinthians 1:27-29)
    2. You will be persecuted because of the Rock (John 15:20)
  3. What are the identifying marks that show we’ve built our lives upon the Rock:
    1. Obedience (Matthew 7:24; John 14:21, 23; James 1:18)
